You Know You're A Parent When it's 'Gradulation' Time 2 :)

Aloha,

With a sad "aaahhh," I have to report that my mates, Mark and Dave, didn't win through to the Finals of the Irish TV show, The Hit, but they *did* write the song that cracked the Top Twenty in the Irish pop charts today, so that's something well-worth celebrating :)

I thought I'd finish the week with a quick episode of my on-going series, "You Know You're A Parent When..."

You know you're a parent when... it's time to go on a diet.
While I was changing his brother, No. 1 Son looked at me this morning and asked, "Papa, do you have a baby in your tummy?"
Courtesy: newdadtobe.com

(With an "eek," I sucked in my gut, nearly tearing several stomach muscles in the process...)

"No son," I said in a squeaky voice, before remembering to exhale. "Papas can't have babies - only Mamas can have babies."

"Papa, how do you make babies?"

As I mentally lamented how my former six-pack was now a keg, Papa Silence filled the bedroom and beads of sweat broke out on my bald pate while I contemplated *the* question...

I looked at the clock. It was only 6:46 a.m. and my eyes were still half sleep-glued together.

I decided there was only one way to respond to my eldest, who had asked such a thought-provoking and interesting question:

"Right son, what do you want for breakfast? Waffles or Pancakes?"

 ###

You realize you're a parent when... you're forced to introduce new things in their life - like school.

This is No. 1 Son, moments before I woke him up his first day at school...

TWO days later, he came out with one of the funniest things he's ever said.

I had just woken him up again and he rolled, burrowed and eventually looked at me: "Papa... Is it the weekend yet?"

###

You know you're a parent when *this* is the look you get.

Recently, No.2 and No. 3 Sons wouldn't share the tablet, so in frustration I said, "If you boys don't share, I will send you back to Amazon."

And, yes, they were much happier playing *with* the box, than the toys that came *in* the box!

####

And finally, you know you're a parent when.... No. 2 Son officially graduates from Potty Training!!!

Sure, it happens the day after you buy another box of Pull-ups, but you can save those for No. 3 Son.

Happiness is wearing Angry Birds undies :)

Have a great weekend, everyone :)

Great post! I love when you do these. :) And congrats on potty training! We just got kid #3 done here. :)

You'll have to tell me how you did it. We're regressing on the potty training. We started four year old son in pre-K and he started wetting the bed each night. 3 year old daughter still wears pullups at night and occasionally still wets the bed during nap. Sigh.

We're trying to adopt again and every baby we see in public our son asks "Is THAT our baby?" (he's having problems waiting) We sure get some strange looks.

If they like boxes so much, you know what to get them for Christmas this year. Is your backyard big enough for about fifty washing machine boxes? Of course, getting them inside at night might be a challenge. 'Papa, I'm in one of these boxes, find me!'

Too cute, thank gosh, no more potty training, but the rest, yeah - I miss it! Lovely memories.

Thanks for sharing!

Boxes were always the best toys. Yeah I just had a parent moment, my oldest started her first year of middle school. I am dealing with it slowly, lol.

Those are awesome. Really takes me back. We learn so much about life and about ourselves from these sweet little gifts from God.

"If you boys don't share, I will send you back to Amazon."

ROFLMAO -- I think I remember saying that, only it was "send you back to J.C. Penneys" when my oldest was a toddler. Or maybe "Lowes," if my husband was in a hardware frame of mind.

I also remember that the optimum time for our daughters to move up a size in diapers was after we bought a case of diapers in the smaller, now insufficient size. Some things never change!

Hahahaha!!!! Dyyyyyying... totally laughing because these are all SO TRUE. Especially the pull ups... I still have princess ones I'll probably make #4 son wear, LOL... Can't make myself get rid of them! (Which is shocking for me cuz I love to throw stuff away)

Funny post, Koopo. Love the pics!

Waffles or Pancakes always get my mind off of the question at hand :)

Isn't it great how refreshingly honest children are? :)

I'm giggling so much, I can hardly type.

Send them back to Amazon...I wish it was that easy. ;)

Where do babies come from? Poor you - to be getting that question so soon.

That ship has already sailed at our house. Dd found the Joy of Sex book and promptly showed it to her younger brother. Talk about an education! xD

Mazza me old mucka',

Gosh n'stuff! Great post! Thanks for sharing!

Now then, time for one of those vague comments. Whose comment should I copy and paste? I'm so kidding. Ha ha and ha.

A bit of a mixed result for your mates, Mark and Dave. Still kudos to your buddies.

One moment, just got to suck in my tummy a bit better so I can see my keyboard.

It is the weekend as I type this. One moment, removes belly from keyboard.

Kids are fun like that. I think just giving them empty boxes and selling the toys on EekBay or whatever it's called, would be a great idea. Yes, ignore what I just typed.

Always good to finally get your Potty trained.

Cheerio and Froot Loops, your way,

Gary :)

Thanks for such a fun post! It feels good to laugh, and I hear it builds up the tummy muscles. ;) Just sayin' ...
No. 1 Son asleep is priceless. So innocent. If only we could be this carefree again.

Oh I love stories of your kids because you include pictures, and they're just so stinkin' cute. :) Made me happy.

I love your humor-such great stories!
Yes, a good box, some pots and wooden spoons-and Christmas is priceless! Great post :D

There always should be a party for potty training. I promised my daughter a lipstick-(Mulan chapstick).
It was quite an interesting trip in the store-when she decided to tell everyone why she was getting a beauty product! ;D

So that is what it's like being a parent these days. It has been such a long time ago that I've forgotten. :)

Ooh, can we really send them back to Amazon?! *Cheers* ;)

Quite funny moments! Such a dad way out of that question. Love it! And I love your Amazon comment and their expressions. It's great to be a fly on the wall. :)

Big smiles. Thank you. And the box is ALWAYS more fun that the (expensive) toy it contained.

Congrats on the potty training!

I used to love playing in boxes. :-)

I always enjoy these posts. Did No. 1 Son choose pancakes or waffles? I can never decide between them.

Meradeth Houston said...

I apparently once asked my grandfather is he was prego...and I still hear about it to this day. What did you son go for--waffles or pancakes? :)

Unknown said...

I love your pictures! Hoping for that same potty-training happiness for my #3. Maybe the trick is going out and buying a heap of pull-ups! :)

Libby said...

Oh Potty training. So much fun!

What a fun post! Little ones totally crack me up with the stuff that comes outta their mouths. No filters involved. They think it; they say it.

The four grandchildren we were with over the weekend are really into their tablets, too. Even the one who isn't quite two yet. Amazing. But this ol' grandma made them put them down to play with... me.

When they 'graduate' from potty training, it's like getting a raise in your salary!

Boxes are THE MOST AWESOME THING IN THE WORLD. My sister and I played with a freezer box for weeks. It finally fell apart...

And #1 Son looks so peaceful :)

I get ya on the questions. Ha!

Leigh Covington said...

LOL! That baby stuff is killing me! We've had lots of those questions lately too cause my bro and his wife just had their first! Wahoo! We've finally settled on "Jesus put the baby in the mommy's tummy." They came up with that on their own, and I was good with it. :)

Cute kids.

Mark, this was a joy...an absolute joy to read. I smiled the entire read through.

I loved sending the kids back to Amazon. That was a good one.

Sorry so late to the game...I always seem to be. Really starting to implement all my "tools" and actually check my reader. Gotta make that a habit.
