ISWG; a Marathon & the End of the World

Aloha,

It's Insecure Writer's Support Group time, so where am I this month?

I am a bad blogger!

A very bad blogger!!

All of a sudden, various hecklers stood up and shouted from the loud, AdSense-d crowd...

Flog him!

Aye!

Flog the Blog!

Yikes! Sorry, but I have been so terrible commenting back these last few weeks, but there is a good reason:

Although I blew my Dec. 1 deadline, I have - 24 minutes ago - finished the first draft edits for WIP#1.
It goes now to the “main character,” Donald Braswell, my wife and several generous-with-their-time Critique Partners for the “Fresh Eyes” test.

All this ahead of a Jan. 1, 2013 appointment with a professional editor in San Diego…

And if all goes well...

what could go wrong?

...I'll have a finished and polished ms to showcase at the Southern California Writer’s Conference in mid-February.

I’m also running the Honolulu Marathon this Sunday, but the last time I trained was about a month ago.

What is there to be insecure about?

Er, hello…the end of the world in sixteen days?

Oh.

Editing is a chore, but it's so rewarding when you have your WIP at a place that feels right. Good luck at the editor's meeting and at the conference in February.

Dianne K. Salerni said...

Congratulations on finishing your edits -- and good luck in the marathon.

We all know there are times when we can't devote as much attention to the blogs. I know I've been there! I just hope people understand know I'll be back as soon as I can.

Yay! Congrats in finishing up the draft. My fingers are crossed for your deadlines.

Good luck at the marathon.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Hey, but you finished!
Now just don't keel over during the race on Sunday.

Suzi said...

Good to hear you're taking care of business before the end of the world. And don't worry about commenting on other blogs cause we won't be around in sixteen days. :)

Have a great day!

Dani said...

Why are you killing yourself if the world is going to end? Huh?

You are a great blogger... just a horrible commenter. Lol! Kidding. I'm kidding.

Now go run your heart out you running beast!

I'm eating all I want and not cleaning a single room in my house for the next six days...if this is it..I'm going out fat and happy!

"Oh."

Trade mark!!!!

:D

Best of luck with the marathon. I ran a 5k last summer and spend the rest of the year crying over how much my shin splints hurt.

And you're not a bad blogger. So if you were hoping to be flogged, you'll have to look for another reason...

Hi Mark .. good for you and I sure hope 2013 comes round ...

Good luck with that Marathon run - funny how we do the things we shouldn't do first and do eventually get to do what we should be doing .. but always not in the order we should ... happy marathoning on Sunday ... Hilary

Sometimes you have to prioritize what you choose to focus on. And of course, family must work into the equation. Can't wait to read the finished product.

Mark, I don't think you need to apologize for your busy schedule. Wow! That is crazy busy. I am actually going on a blogging hiatus starting Monday. I have WAY too much going on, too.
Glad to hear you finished your wip! Whoot! Whoot!

I'm here because according to Elizabeth Seckman I should follow you immediately. :)

That is some schedule and to think we only have 16 days til the zombies come. I'm already with my crossbow so if you want to head here to Chitown, you can be on my team. ;)

PS Good luck!

I've blown worse than deadlines. I've shelved a book and blew a few of my indie publishing dates. Don't worry Mark you're okay. And if anyone tries to flog you I'll ask Alex for a few ninjas and we'll hunt them down ourselves.

Sending positive thoughts for meeting that deadline and doing it with panache.

Flog the Blog? Is there a Fest possibility here?

Samantha May said...

Good luck with that marathon :P

Hopefully everything goes well for you and the WIP!

I promise not to flog the blog (<--10 points for rhyming). I might throw some popcorn at it though.

So cool that you're running the marathon! As for deadlines, I know the feeling...so bad about them!

A marathon? Great for you!! Happy IWSG post day. :) Like your "About Me" photo!

Hey, you go to the mainland often, or is this a special trip for the writer's conference?

I live in Alaska, and have never been to a major writers anything (a couple local SCBWI "Editor's Days" have been nice though).

Just curious, as I don't hear much from edges-of-the-country writers' interactions with those highly lauded conferences. (Maybe it's just easier to be a mocker if I can't ever go...)

Congrats on finishing your edits! Good luck with your marathon! :)

Who has time to worry about the things we should do when the end of the world is approaching? LOL! You crack me up, Mark! Way to go on getting the draft to those fresh eyes!

Jeff Hargett said...

Best of fortunes to you on that manuscript.

OOH! Good luck with the marathon - that's great! And can't wait to look over the WIP! :)

You haven't trained in almost a month! You need to start eating pasta like right now. Good luck, and enjoy the run. Also the beers at the finish line. And judging by your photo, you may want to get a hair cut, it's looking a bit shaggy and you wouldn't want your locks to get in your way during the run. (;

PS. Congrats on getting through your edits!

Melissa said...

Congratulations, Mark! That's an awesome accomplishment! :D

I've heard, regardless of the Mayan calendar, the world will not end on the 21st. I'm stocking my pantry, but not holding my breath. ;)

Suzanne Furness said...

Good luck with the marathon and congrats on finishing the edits.

Ella said...

Congrats on finishing and yes, good luck on your marathon!
I vote Santa comes on Dec. 20th,...just in case :D

Kirsten said...

Life is too short to keep score, my friend.
(That said, all it would take is a click on the like button to let this insecure writer know you don't hate her post!)

I'm thrilled to be one set of 'Fresh Eyes' on your WIP. :)

Carrie Butler said...

Congratulations on finishing those edits, Mark! :) And don't worry about being a "bad blogger". Tis the season to be busy!

Ciara said...

Congrats on finishing edits. I've been horrible about commenting back, too. December is a tough month for everyone to keep up.
My eldest keeps talking about the end of the world. It's fascinating stuff to a teenager.

Unknown said...

Well done finishing the edits. I am sure you will enjoy every aching muscle while completing your marathon!

My son stepped away from his computer last night, flew out the front door looking for the moon. He was informed by someone on Facebook that is was 'red' and the end of the world was coming. We are experiencing bush fires here at the moment, hence the red moon! duh!

DL Hammons said...

Flog the Blog! Love it!! Where's my wet noodle? :)

Gwen Gardner said...

Work comes first, and sometimes a blog break is a good idea. But - a marathon you haven't trained for? Yikes! Is that before or after December 21st?

Emily R. King said...

You have a ton going on! I'm getting tired just thinking of you running a marathon. Running isn't my thing. I have gimpy baby toes. Hey! We can't all be perfect.. ;) Congrats on winning the blog hop!

kjmckendry said...

Congrats on your manuscript and good luck in the marathon. Ughh I hate running!

dolorah said...

Congrats on getting through to the end, even if a few minutes late. The CA Conference looks cool, wish I could go. I would have to polish up - something.

See ya later Mark, and good luck with the marathon.

.......dhole

Tammy Theriault said...

i would run it with you if you would do half the marathon! but we may be cracking jokes the whole time which would leave me out of breath and ribs hurting...never mind!!

Robyn Campbell said...

Yay on completing the edits! Bodacious! I know how great it feels to wear that big badge. I'm a runner, so I get that too. Good luck!

Annalisa Crawford said...

Wouldn't it be annoying if the world ended before you got your MS to the editor?? (Well, amongst other emotions like panic, of course!)

Shell Flower said...

Good luck on the marathon! Sorry I'm late for IWSG. I must be a bad blogger, too. Congats on your draft, too.

SpacerGuy said...

Awesome news on the book Mark, all set for Monday?

Trisha said...

Phew, sounds like you've been busy! But for such a good reason :) Good luck with your CP/etc. feedback!! I love revising, and I guess that makes me weird but I'm okay with it :D

Nicole said...

You busy guy, you. I'm so looking forward to reading your stuff! This week's the week. ;)
