IWSG - An Exercise in Brevity...

Aloha,

Led by the man who inspired Mini-Alex, it's IWSG time.

This month, my insecurities include the fact that I keep falling asleep while writing WIP#2.

Think about it.....

I don't need to write too fall asleep. I can sleep during the day but night time is a different story altogether,

Yvonne.

You're working too hard, Mark! You'd be amazed what a good night's sleep and a tall cup of coffee can do for your words.
Now banish those insecure thoughts! You're a fantastic writer, even when you're brief. :)

I hear ya!

I am a late night writer. It's the very best time for me to get new words down on the page. The fact is, I can revise any time of day, but late, late at night is when I can really put down a first draft ...

until I start falling asleep at the keyboard.

That can be a drag.

Well I'm glad you didn't fall asleep while writing your IWSG post, cause that would've been really short.

Now go get some sleep. (;

Hey, Mark,

You're doing too much, buddy. IT's hard with the boys, the house, and writing. Have the hot coffee ready!

Thanks for your comment this morning. I really appreciate it. The accident really took a lot out of me, getting back is a tough struggle, but I'm getting there!

Too funny Mark, falling asleep while working means not sleeping during those hours you're supposed to. I know I'm doing the same thing and then getting a 20 minute shut eye that only leaves me more tired!

Step away, get a good nights sleep and it will all fall back into place, at least that's what I keep telling myself. LOL

Are you doing what most authors do and working on it in the wee hours of the morning or evening? Cause with three little boys to run around after it would not surprise me if you're just dead.

If it really is an issues of the story being boring then just remember that editing is the place where you make everything pop- right now you just have to get the story out.

Keep at it, mark- I'm sure you'll get over the hump!

Hi Mark - falling asleep - I think you left that bug in Amseterdam .. it's filtered over here!! Perhaps it's the thought of Autumn, let alone Winter - I'll be Sleeping Beauty!

Cheers and keep the littlies happy .. Hilary

Lol! You are a busy dad, falling asleep probably has nothing to do with the wip. :)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

So four pages of 'L' doesn't cut it?
Get some sleep! Elise's post this morning was all about getting enough sleep.

Johanna Garth said...

LOL! Maybe that's your subconscious desire to work out plot issues in your dreams :)

Wendy Tyler Ryan said...

If that's the only time you fall asleep - - - I'm just sayin'.

Just kidding. Don't spread yourself too thin.

Morgan said...

Ohhhh... you're my hero! It means you're doing it. You're spending those last efforts making it happen until you collapse. I definitely need to be more like you! Proud, Mark. Proud. :)

Sleep writing...interesting concept!!

Liz Blocker said...

Hee. Now THIS is brevity. Good for you - brevity is essential to finding time to sleep! Go ZZZZZ!

Now that I have been giggling over this for about an hour, I guess you can't ignore the reaction or maybe you need some separation. Good luck.

Oh no! Maybe taking that melatonin before you write isn't such a great idea...

It's the kids, not the WIP. The kids wear you out and the WIP suffers. Happens to me all the time.

Laughing at Elsie's comment.

I think you can give yourself a break on the falling asleep thing. If I had to do all that you do, I'd probably never write at all.

David P. King said...

I don't know if falling asleep while writing is my problem - more like getting up in the morning so I can write. I'll send you a bullhorn. :)

Unknown said...

That's no bueno! LOL *gives you sip of my coffee* Now get back to writing. You're one of the most entertaining people I can think of, so I know you'll get it humming along soon enough. :)

Rachna Chhabria said...

Hi Mark, I am going to send you lots of coffee so that you don't fall asleep while writing WIP 2 ;)

Btw, sleep writing is a unique malady.

WIP #2 is that bad???

:P
Kidding.

I hope you get some rest, Mark.

Stephen Tremp said...

Hey Mark, I bet you're falling asleep because you are working many many many hours keying away on your PC or laptop!

Brandon Ax said...

Sounds like a few days off would help out. Sometimes a recharge is needed.

Anonymous said...

Oh my.

*fidget* Maybe, um...well, what time...you should...write earlier? Or later? Drink coffee? *eep*

J.L. Campbell said...

Hope you stay away long enough to get at least a few more pages written.

We'll assume it doesn't mean you are bored, and assume it DOES mean you are working too hard. Being a papa and a writer and a hubby and and and.. it's all very demanding!

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

LOL. I don't want to venture a guess. I've never fallen asleep while working on a book.

Julie Musil said...

LOL! Maybe a character needs to die. That'll keep you awake :)

ilima said...

Bahaha. Make something explode!

Elephant's Child said...

And perhaps the sleep is allowing your mind to dream something which will enrich your WIP?

dolorah said...

Either start keeping better hours; or quit boring yourself, lol.

So hard to juggle all aspects of a full time life. I've fallen asleep at my computer many times.

.....dhole

Unknown said...

My problem is that I can't sleep because my head is full of thoughts that will not shut up.

Unknown said...

That's not a good sign. :)
