CHALLENGE entry: Word Verification Code

It’s time for Rach Writes Fourth Campaigner Challenge. Here’s the rules:
Write a short story/flash fiction story in 200 words or less, excluding the title. Any format, including a poem. Begin with, “Shadows crept across the wall”. These five words will be included in the word count. An added challenge (optional), do one or more of these:
·         end with the words: "everything faded." (included in the word count.)
·         include the word "orange"
·         write in the same genre you normally write
·         make your story 200 words exactly!
Here’s my 200 word count entry:
                                  ###
Bloggur Word Verification
Shadows crept across the wall.
I sat down with a hiss.
Their computer screen lit up and mocked me.
The two, black works were Canal geshaltr,  I was positive. That’s why I typed CANAL (space) geshaltr.
Click. Enter.
The screen changed.
I didn't prove I wasn’t a robot.
My resolve weakened.
I Clicked the orange “B.” Had Bloggur changed its Word Verification Codes?
Had a non-writer re-written the Codes to fix what wasn’t broken?
In my head, the WVC chuckled and spat out bull shoot
The near illegible word was BlackWhite’d and wrapped around a gloomy darkground – like my mood – considering I wanted only to post “Great writing – thanks for sharing."
I typed the truth: bull sheet.
Again. No proof. I was still a robot.
I quit comments. Why bother, it’s too hard.
Noise outside. Close.
Two pencils of light swam underneath the rattling door.
Blogmen!
“Stop, or we will delete!”
The square, red desk phone rang once.

Can you hear the roar?
Scanning the grey, undisturbed office, I lingered on a happy family unit framed forever in the past.
Clicking the hibernate button, I grabbed the pen and Ream of Paper.
Thus, we were armed.
We would be heard.
The familiar roar – everything faded.
                                                                 ###

LOL! Dude, you just nailed my sentiments exactly, especially after reading over 80 entries today. Many excellent entries, mind you. Way to think outside the box on this one! :)

LoL! You made me laugh with this one...so often, I ignore blogs that have this unless its a follower or someone who trudged to my domain and commented. :)And I prefer the single ones from before...they were way easier to spell out.
Looks like a military memo...

Oh, this is a poem for the ages. In the past, I actually haven't minded word verification too much because the words crack me up. But now it's changed to those two words, one of which is almost impossible to read. It really does make me want to avoid commenting on the blogs that have it. But now ... I don't know what to do, lest the Blogmen arrive at my door. Fantastic post, Mark!

Haha Oh I LOVE it!! That's really funny! I really don't like that new blogger word verification either! It's so annoying, especially when you get it wrong!!

I'm entry #19

Very creative! I've just been noticing today and that I'm pretty sure I'm not typing any of these new word verifications correctly, but I go ahead and guess and it's let me through every time. I have to wonder if it's just letting me slide by or if my eyes are better than I think they are. Anyway, very fun entry!

That was awesome! Perfect for the times- I hate those things. I think they make my eyes worse than they already are!

It was, gently, suggested to me by a friendly blogger that I dump the word verification on my comments. I listened. After reading through some 200 entries in the Origins blogfest, I have seen the light.

I hear the roar, Mark. I hear it.

By the by, has anyone ever told you just how funny you are? Care to pop on over to my blog and answer some questions? You are officially *tagged*. It's my first time. Be gentle. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Nice way to get the message across! I just wrote a post on how to turn it off, and got a great response, lol. Great job!

The most perfect entry EVER! Everyone must read this. Not only is it awesome, but MAYBE they'll get the hint! :)

Ha! This HAS to be one of the most creative entries I've read. I can never prove I'm not a robot...

LOVED IT!!! OMG I swear the words get harder and harder. Then other times I swear I typed in the wrong word but it accepts it.

Voted for you!

Brilliant! perfect topic for this challenge. The problem I believe is that many are not aware that they have word verification. The subject has been brought up and hopefully dealt with.

Fantastic. I'm off to vote. I turned off my verification after someone mentioned it was annoying. I agreed since I was also finding it hard to comment on other people's blogs.

Very strong entry. I hope you win!

That was flippin' hilarious, Mark!! And so timely. I HATE the new WV. Every time I run across someone who has one, I ask them to turn it off in consideration of their commenters. I must say though that it helps if you push back from the monitor and kind of squint your eyes. Or maybe it's just my age!!

I'm definitely voting for you! Perfect!

Mine is entry #96. Come on by and tell me what you think.

That's really good. And so true!

This is so creative! I love the idea! Man, I hate word verification. I am terrible at typing in the right words. Maybe I am a robot after all. :'(

Anyway, I'm a new follower and glad to have found your blog! :)

as always, smart, witty, and pretty dang awesome. THank you for posting this, people still have those darn word verification, and it does make it hard to comment sometimes.

See, now this is why I never delete any of your posts unread, even when I'm behind. You are awesome, it's official.

Well done:) I don't have the stomach for flash fiction, but power to you:)

Awesome take on the challenge! I hate the new word verifications too.

Theresa Milstein said...

Ha! There's been a lot of Word Verification ire these days. Thanks for the laugh.

Love your sense of humor! Great job! I'm #61.

Nick Wilford said...

This was brilliant! What a great laugh, and very true. I love the concept of Blogmen - they'll hunt you down if they think you're a robot. Everyone has to TURN THEM OFF, I hate the double word ones!

Traci Kenworth said...

Wonderful!! I could feel his frustration...

Avery Marsh said...

Great job taking a frustration we can all relate to and turning into something we can laugh at. This is so hilarious, that if I don't shortlist you to move onto the next round, I'm sure the Blogmen will make me suffer for it.

Congrats and good luck in the next round of judging! :)

Excellent! I can really relate! Today I tried to purchase tickets to the Radiohead Concert, being held in Brisbane in November. After queing in line on the site for half an hour before it opened - I was lucky enough to actually reach the web page only 10 mins after the time the sale started.

I was given only 12 SECONDS to complete the transaction, rushing through I reached the bottom of the page to come across the wonderful, joyous now I have to prove I am not a robot! Really!

I did get through the challenge only to be told the ticket allocation had expired! IN TEN MINUTES!

Loved your story!
