"G" is for "God" and "Giving" back

It's Day 8 of the A-Z Challenge and Golly Gee Gumdrops... what letter could it be today?

My theme revolves around the soon-to-be published memoir I wrote for opera singer, Donald Braswell.

"G" is for "God" and "Giving" back
###

One of my favorite quotes from Donald is “Let’s not make this a story about me. Let’s make this a story from me to those who’ve lost direction, and are trying to find their way back home.”

A man of faith, Donald truly believes that God has worked miracles in his journey back to the stage - and his second chance to do what he loves.

You know when one thing happens and you're like, "Oh that's cool." And then when a second thing happens, you're like, "Wow, what a coincidence!"

Well, with Donald, there's been so many times that he shouldn't have been where he was - and yet something amazing and wonderful happened - that it's hard not to believe it was all in God's timing.

Even with the accident that stole his voice, Donald believes God wanted his silence to understand a lesson in humility.

"The chronology of the events that shaped my life continue to leave me feeling blessed and I am in awe of the doors and curtains that swing open on God’s timing," Donald said. "Sure, I’m no longer twenty-eight and on the cusp of greatness, but that’s fine. I'm at ease knowing I may never be a famous opera star.
"My life has changed like the seasons, and it’s exciting to wonder what God will call for me to do next."

His faith is not mine - but I can't help but admire his attitude and his integrity.
Thank you (again) for showcasing this incredible story.

Hi John,
Wonderful way to blog about a memoir. And very interesting. I also credit God for all the wonderful timing He has brought me to in my memoir, Mobility Matters:Stepping Out in Faith, which came out this past October.
Loved your post!

It does sound like Donald has had a blessed life despite challenges that have come along.

I'm not religious, but I am constantly in awe of those little things that happen to change the course of a person's life forever.

God has a path for us and sometimes He has to nudge us in that direction. Donald understands that and has a great attitude.

G is also for grace! My pastor actually just talked about this Sunday. He's in his mid-80s now (I think...lol), and he was healthy all of his life, then suddenly got sick, and he said that's when he truly saw God's grace. He's getting better every day.

Hi Mark - it's lovely you're sharing his story with us - and things do connect and we understand the whys (sometimes) along the way ... Donald has certainly achieved, after overcoming ... cheers Hilary

I know we shouldn't be surprised when God is working miracles in our lives, but we do tend to forget He's God sometimes:) Thanks for sharing!

He seems so at peace now with all that has happened to him, and all that he has become. What a blessing. Lisa, co-host AtoZ 2015, @ http://www.lisabuiecollard.com

I believe that God has a plan for all of us and it sure sounded like he had one for Donald.

Very interesting story.

Message to Donald: Jehovah Jireh, God who provides, will take care of you and your family's needs.

Message to Mark: The same Jehovah will care for you and your family as well.
