My theme revolves around the soon-to-be published memoir I wrote for opera singer, Donald Braswell.
"C" is for "Courageous."
This post focuses on a six-minute NBC video, which shows Donald's first audience audition on America's Got Talent.
Click HERE to watch, and wait until you see what happens at 2:00 when Donald begins to sing...
When I asked Donald about this audition, his initial thought was to stop and ask for a restart - because the boos and the shouting from the crowd drowned out the music to where he wondered if he was even signing at the right part of the backing track.
Luckily, the jeers became cheers and... well, you'll have to watch the video to see what happens next...

Tomorrow: "D" is for Donald (a short bio of the man and his music.)

Why hello!!! I'm gonna check out the video now... Excuse me while I imgone you hula dancing to this...
Am I drunk writing??? Wow. I meant "imagine". The ONE time I needed you autocorrect!!!
Drat you Mark. Thank you Mark. Misty-eyed here. Sometimes people shame me, and other days some very special people lift me up.
He severed his vocal cords? Wow, you would never know. I'm glad it turned round, but I've never seen a UK audience act like that. Maybe we're much more reserved!
Hi Mark - what an incredible story ... and how wonderful he was given this 2nd chance and took it ... I look forward to more of his story .. cheers Hilary
You're right--courageous--don't know if I could've kept going on like he did.
All those jeers - that was just crazy. His voice was amazing from the first note. He really had to face the demons to finish that performance.
He sang like 5 words before they started booing him. People in general have ZERO sense of musicality. Geez. I'm glad he kept going and that the judges were like, "What's wrong with these people? No X."
I didn't understand the crowds' negative reaction in the beginning but I'm glad they turned around. It had to have taken so much for him to keep going in the face of all that.
He had such an incredible voice. Why were they booing? Even the judges looked confused.
Talk about a turnaround! Awesome to finally see Donald at work. :)
Wow, American audiences are harsh!! What a great voice :-)
Courageous indeed to keep on going. Goes to show what one can do by not giving up
Having watched a number of these videos, I fail to see why anyone jeered, I'm glad they stopped doing so. Great voice.
I literally cannot imagine having the guts to sing in front of a crowd like that! How vicious and cruel to a boo someone the second they open their mouth? And the fact that he was able to drown out the boos simply with the power of his voice? Nothing short of astounding. Courage, indeed. Wow.
I have to go watch this again. It was so amazing to see the transformation of the audience as Donald won them over. Makes me tear right up.
I'm loving your A to Z topic!
(And I like the new look for the blog too. :) )
Oh my dragon goodness! I almost missed this one. Geez, Mark, you are threatening to make the dragon cry. THAT was really courageous of him, definitively. I give him a standing ovation as well.
Mark, I almost cried watching the audition video. The chills. You made a good choice in writing this book. I can't wait to read it now. Uh-mazing.
Yes, that was pretty amazing to hear the audience turn like that, from really cold to really hot! I've never seen that before... Lisa, co-host AtoZ 2015, @ http://www.lisabuiecollard.com
Wow! That was amazing. Very true you could hear the emotion behind the words. What it meant to be raised up and it rang in his voice! Thanks for sharing it.
