IWSG - Writing On - Moving Out

Aloha,

Bloody hell, it's been a while since I've posted with the Insecure Writers Support Group, founded by Mr. Alex J. Cavanaugh the incorrigible supporter of all things bloggery and writery.

Since my last literary selfie, I've finally put WIP #1 (a memoir) to bed. There may be some late-night terrors (editing) in the next few months, but I. Am. Done. (in a happy way.)

I've now switched to fiction. WIP #2 is a thriller (the writing is very, very scary), but I'm having so much fun figuring out what's supposed to happen next.

(One of my sub-heroes won't tell me what he's supposed to do next, so yes, mister, you ARE in a timeout for two chapters.)

It's also helped me realize I'm not so much a Pantser, but more, shall we say, like a Boxers-er.

My goal *was* to have a full, first draft by St. Patrick's Day (any excuse for a celebratory drink... hmmm, not that I need an excuse on Paddy's Day... #Score, but still.)

I won't make that deadline, but hope to finish by the end of summer!! (Come back to visit next month when I choose the exact year :)

I know!! Let's Dig Our Way to the Mainland!

My current insecurities revolve around moving next month.

After nearly four years, we're moving to Fairfax Co., VA, and while I know life on the East Coast is going to be a lot of fun (if not a lot of sun), it's going to be hard moving from Hawaii, where field trips to the beach are only complicated by having to choose which beach to visit.

"Hang on son, we'll boogie-board to Virginia!"

My blog name will obviously change, and I hope to be able to offer visitors a brand new look later in the spring (of this year!)

All in all, it's going to be an interesting few months!

Sincere THANKS to those who continue to comment and support me through wise words and cheap laughs.

I bow down to your generous and giving spirit, and please know I'm a better writer because of the confidence you bestow -- and the inspiration you offer.

I'm not going to miss Hawaii*                               (*That's a lie.)

Good luck on your move. Too bad you're not moving to Jacksonville, Florida, another Navy town.

You are about to embark on a new adventure! Embrace it. The East coast is really cool.
Character time out. I'll have to remember that.
Now, get to work or I get to kicking. And if I don't, Elizabeth will.

We will gladly welcome you to the East coast! Not as pretty as Hawaii, but we do have beaches!! :) I grew up in VA, so I think it's pretty cool you're moving there. It might seem like a bit of a rat race with you being so close to DC, but just remember, if you ever need a break from the city, Deltaville or anywhere in Gloucester County (basically the Chesapeake Bay) is a great place to relax! :) Good luck with your move!

Sorry that you'll miss Hawaii, but we can all understand that. I hope your move isn't too stressful and that you like being in VA. Best of luck in your new home.

You'll lose the beach, but you'll gain the pretty leaves and turn of the seasons.
(I hope you own a coat. 0_0)

I'm glad you're writing with gusto, too. That stage of drafting is fun. Enjoy it. :)

IWSG #143 until Alex culls the list again.

I spent part of my childhood in Virginia and loved it! I know it's no pick-of-the-litter beach selection like in HI, but Virginia Beach is absolutely spectacular!

Gotta move into that next chapter to find out where the story goes. On paper and in life. Hope the move and the story are heading somewhere great.

Come to the Dark Side.. Er, I mean East Coast. hehehe Plus, there are beaches over here. Probably nowhere close to Hawaii's, but they're here. :)

You'll love it, but always miss Hawaii, so then you go back, eventually, but think of all the new experiences. It's what makes writing all the better!

Like Debra said, welcome to the dark side! LOL

Good luck on all fronts. Including y-fronts.

Good luck with the move! I wish I could put my characters in time out...they'd just laugh at me...

I love it when characters talk to me, although you have to be nice to them, otherwise they sulk :-)

Congrats on finishing your memoir. So cool you already have the next project in the works. Nice when that smooth transition works out.

Good luck with the move. I hate moving, though I've done it every other year for many years. I just bought a house and the thought of never moving again both thrills and terrifies me. I can't just move away from those cleaning issues any more.

Must really hard to leave the sun for the dreary east coast. It's been miserable here. Congrats on the fiction venture.

Sounds like a major life shift is about to happen. Hope it's because of something really good. I haven't been around to check in for a long while. Who knows why? I certainly don't, except I had a major life shift and I'm still in recovery. I haven't moved though, so I'll leave that joy to you. Hope it's a great experience.

You are really going to miss Hawaii aren't you? Virginia is a very nice state though albeit not as warm in the winter months. However, they do get good summers so you should be able to acclimatize this summer. Best of luck Mark, both to your new book and for your move. GMD hugs.

Adventures, even when we want them, are always scary! Excited to hear about the new novel in the works!! Congrats on finishing the other one, which I can't wait to read. I don't envy you the move, or where you're moving to, but anywhere you are with your family is home... I would SO hate to leave the islands... but think of all the history you'll get to introduce your kids to!!!

What do you mean you're not going to make it by St Patrick's Day???? I might smoke you for that!
It's good you teach your characters who's the boss here. I will miss the pictures of Hawaii you take! But we'll keep cheering you up along the way, my friend. You may leave the island but your friends will stay with you. ;)

Oh oh, I think the comment box ate my comment. I'll try again.

Good luck on the move. I'm sure Virginia will be just as fantastic as Hawaii. Okay, maybe not, but you'll find other reasons to love it there too! :)

Can't wait to hear more about this new thriller you're about to finish. That'a big change in direction from a memoir.
