Aloha,
As always, a huge thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh for founding the Insecure Writers Support Group (IWSG).
The only thing bothering me this month (okay, there are many things on my insecure mind, but these posts are supposed to be 300 words or less!) is my personal decision to take down all my blog awards.
When I joined Blogger in September 2011, they seemed to be all the rage (remember the "Sunshine" or "Great Commenter" awards :) but for whatever reason (natural ebb and flow?) they seem to have mostly disappeared - at least from what I've seen (but then again, I ain't no proficient blogger these days, so what's do I know!)
I remain, however, a curious little guy: Have you kept or deleted yours?

I didn't realize some people didn't take them seriously until recently. I don't worry about it too much myself. Gotten a few. Mostly played along. They're kind of demanding for awards, though. I guess that's my only real observation.
I deleted mine long ago. I guess I've never been much of an award junky. Lol
I always keep mine, but on a separate page of my blog as to cut down on the clutter (I'm a bit OCD in that respect)
I still have mine. Some show on my blog, but like Mark I set a separate page.
I took down most of my awards and did an explanation post about it. I keep thinking about clearing most of my sidebar and pages, but I've been putting it off. I'm concerned about the page loading speed on my blog. I was thinking that maybe the awards slowed the loading. But I don't know much about that stuff either.
I did essentially stop accepting the awards a couple of years back because it just got to be too much.

Tossing It Out
Confession time. I never kept mine and almost never passed them on. I don't mind reading them on other people's blogs and finding out all kinds of interesting tidbits.
I'm a very modest person. So I didn't post my hundreds of blog awards because I didn't want to embarrass others. :)
Seriously though, I never did put them up. Lazy maybe.
I agree though that they've kind of slowed down. Every once in a while I'll see a friend have a post, but not very often.
I got to the point I had just too many in my sidebar. My blog takes a long time to load anyway, and they really slowed down the process. I set up a separate page for them, along with some other cool things people have made for me over the years. Now only blogfests and special things are in my sidebar.
Maybe make a page just for them?
I didn't delete mine. But I've gotten so many at one stage that I stopped actively forwarding them. Because they really do take up a LOT of time and thought that can go into writing.

Giggling at your corny joke about dude and dude-ette. Ya never know what you'll find on the IWSG blog hop. I have my awards in the sidebar. They're colorful and fun, but who looks at them anyway. And yes, I have quit doing them. Time killer. Such a deep topic here for discussion. Love it!
I've noticed those blog awards aren't the rage anymore. I used to post mine but then decided to take them all off because they got a little cluttered, ha ha. I can see where you're conflicted about it, because you are pretty awesome. ;)
I only have one (haven't put it up yet because I still haven't written the post to go with it) so I'll definitely keep it up there. But if you have several, it may be distracting. I like Debra's idea of having a page just for them.
I'm still sitting on a whole bunch of awards I have yet to make posts for. I just don't know enough bloggers well enough to give them out to new people every time.
I took mine down after a few weeks. I wanted to use the sidebar for information people might actually want.
Oh yeah, I remember those award thingies! I took mine down a couple years ago as they clog everything up. You don't need that kind of validation. You are awesome just the way you are!
I failed because I didn't know about the 300 work count. Can I get that failure in an award??? Dude. I miss awards. People did them all the time!! Screw it. I'm coming up with some made up ones next month. BE WARNED!! I TEND TO BE PROMISCIOUS...I mean creative.
I keep Father Dragon's Golden Scale award up - because it is reminder to me that I can always do better. The others? No.
I don't think they've disappeared because I got the Sunshine Award last year (it was my first) and I was actually just awarded the Liebster Award. I love getting them and receiving that recognition from my fellow bloggers, so mine are still up.
Hey Sir Mazza,
I've got a blogging award waiting for you over at my site! Fooled you! :)
Okay, I slapped my awards into one of those extra pages. That would be after I figured out how to set up a separate page. I've kept them and my trophy case is bulging. Did that sound right?
Seriously, they are a dilemma. The cynical me would suggest that the passing on of awards is a way to get recognition for the person who bestowed the award. When I do get an award, I break the rules.
Why stop there? Let's get real about all the blogging hippety hoppety things. It's just a way of drawing attention to the person who set it up. Ahem and I'd better go now...:)
Man hugs, ((( )))
Gary :)
I read lots of WP blogs and still see them with new users, but I never posted any that I was "awarded." I remember years ago accepting a one or two and then nominating others, but never really go into it.
Some of them did have clever questions to answer about yourself though and I think allowing readers to know more about the author is a definite positive.
I still love getting Awards, although I haven't gotten any in a while. I think a lot of the 'rules' for some of these Awards are over the top, though.
I keep all my Awards and will just move them to their own page when I have the time to spare. Have a great day Mark!! (((Hugs))) Eva
So funny that you mention this... When I started blogging back in 2010 this was a Big Deal. Even 2011 it was a Big Deal. I remember my anxiety over not getting any awards and my relief and excitement after the first one. And now they just sit in my sidebar taking up space because very few people do awards any longer. And, quite frankly, I don't care if I get one. So, I have been thinking that I need to clean up my sidebar and delete all of those awards. I just haven't done it... yet!
As a new blogger, I'm just starting to learn about these "awards." They seem pretty cool and while I've only received two so far, I do have them posted on my sidebar for now. Not sure what I'll do when I become as popular as you! :)
I think I've got posts with the awards in them and a tag, but that's about it.
I never posted mine. It was nice to be honored, but I felt guilty about honoring someone else because it involved a lot of work for that person.
I had made a page for mine early on, but then nixed it. (I don't have room in my side bar.) For common awards, I just mention and link the blogger at some point after I get it. If I need blog content, then I might actually answer the questions.
In truth, though I appreciate the sentiment, I find them kind of a waste of time for serious writers. I'd rather see guest posts (hosting) and mentions as a way to promote other bloggers who have great content and / or are in need of followers.
I finally got rid of all of mine! (I did hold on for quite some time though) Ah man… Now I'm missing them… Sunshine Award! Come baaaaaack!!!!!
