"You Know You're A Parent When..." #16 (Photo Caption Edition)

Aloha,

Scary how time flies when you're rushing after three little minions, but it's been three months since I've added to my ongoing series called "You Know You're A Parent When..."

Here are some of the latest escapades!

You know you're a parent when...

Discovering the kids' Shuttle is a *match* for the one on the screen: Priceless

...You're standing outside the classroom, just chilling and waiting for No. 1 Son. The bell rings and your little first-grader comes out the door and promptly flips you the bird.

"Papa, I got a yellow card for doing this," said the little man with a sad face as he flips you off again while you cough and smile at the mother who clutches her daughter and walks rushes by.

"Whoa, dude, what's going on?" says you, knowing little man doesn't know the true meaning (yet, sigh) of the flying finger.

"Papa, I was only pointing at something, but teacher said this is a bad word without talking?"

"Yes son, it is."

(There followed a quick and immediate lesson in which finger one should point with.)

"Well, at least you only did it the once and now you know the importance of pointing with your index finger."

"Papa, I did it three times."

(There followed a quick and immediate apology to the teacher - and a review of newly learnt pointing skills.)

Whee... "Kids, come look. This is Papa with too much time on his hands..."

Relieved parents discover latest hiding spot of No. 2 Son

...While No. 3 Son decides to think inside the box...
The panel of Three Sons decide the Angry Birds must walk the plank

No. 3 Son takes "Looking In The Fridge" to a new dimension

No. 1 Son shares a fishing lesson to his brother: "No, smack the wood in the water like this..."

While No. 3. Son says, "Enough with the drama. I'm running away to Hawaii."

Who needs an iPad when there's magical misty rain coming out of a tree?

And finally... you know you're a parent when, after the clothes are cleaned, you remove TWELVE toy cars from the washing machine (so *that* was what the clanking, banging noise was)...and wonder if the Guinness Book of Records has a category for "Most Hot Wheels Found In A Pair Of Kids' Shorts..."

At least they're clean... "Kids, who wants to suck on a car wheel now?"

PS... This series obviously would never be possible without the kids and - as today is our 10th wedding anniversary - I wanted to thank God for His many blessings and thank my wife for her patience and love:)

The space shuttle matched. Yes, you have too much time on your hands.
I can see a new dryer in your very near future...

Love these posts! I was punished for the same thing when I was three, a whipping, standing in the corner, and no understanding for why, but I have never - ever given anyone the finger! LOL

So we never had Hot Wheels in the washing machine, but we had a few diapers. You ever had that happen?

That gel crap is a mess to clean.

Happy Anniversary!

Aloha, Mark... I loved this blog bit. Kids are always so funny. I particularly loved the Pointing Story. Gosh, I wish I could remember what it was actually like to BE that age. ::sigh:: Thank you for sharing these bits from your journey with us.

I also wanted to let you know that you got an Honorable Mention on yesterday's Thursday post. You'll know what I mean when you see it. Hope you like it!!!

Happy anniversary. Laughing at the cars in the washer. Once we took our VCR, before DVDs, to be repaired. Gummy bears. Three boys are great fun aren't they?

Happy Anniversary, my friend. I enjoy your stories about parenthood. I wouldn't know what's that if not for you, although I find some resemblance with living with dwarves. Of course you don't get to toss your kids.
Now I have to get myself a shuttle.

And, wow, that is a lot of cars in the wash. Heh, no wonder washers and driers need to be replaced every so often.

Happy Anniversary, Mark!

Your story reminds me of the time I had to call my mother (who was babysitting my daughter two days a week) and tell her that the daycare objected to my daughter saying "Oh, Jesus Christ!" on the other three days of the week.

"I don't know where she learned that," said my mother.

"Uh, you don't?" I ask, wondering how to break the news. "Well, apparently, she says it several times a day, over everything that happens."

"Oh, Jesus Christ," says my mom.

Silence.

"Okay, point taken," says my mom.

Kids sure make life interesting. And I never pulled more than 3 hot wheels out of the dryer. I'm sure you need to petition for Guiness book of records.

Not to worry about misunderstandings. This happens with young kids. When my son was learning to talk at nursery school the matron washed his mouth out with soap for not pronouncing the word "truck" properly. She seemed to think I'd taught him a bad word. I wasn't happy about this and it took him some time to say "truck", and couldn't master "lorry", either.
The photos are wonderful - I especially like the fridge one.
Thanks Dude!

Happy anniversary, Mark! I hope you had a wonderful celebration.

Children most definitely add the color to our lives, don't they! I had to chuckle when I read that part about you removing the toy cars from the washing machines. I'm assuming they were all intact.

Recently, we had to clean up the messy remains of a shredded diaper that was accidentally tossed into the wash.

Too funny. I can't believe I am about to do it all again. Also I am glad I am not the only one finding things in the laundry.

Congrats on your anniversary. I knew I was a good parent when my oldest was 3 years old and humming Darth Vader's Theme music at the store.

Hey, Mark...

Man, your boys are really shooting up. I hardly recognized them.

You have an unquestionable amount of writing material with those three little minions of yours. LOL.

Ten years....CONGRATS. All the best to you and your wife!

Mark, this post cracks me up! Kids truly are a blessing, aren't they? And think of the stories we can tell them when they're all grown up.

Thanks so much for your supportive (and funny as heck) comment over on Morgan's blog. You made me laugh out loud. Seriously.

Holy crap---you have been busy these last ten years!!!!! Phew... :)

Mark, I just need to copy and paste this whole post into my comment and then put and arrow (<----) pointing to it and saying "funny." :)

Are you KIDDING with those cars???? Hahahaha! And your fridge looks exactly like mine! I even put the yogurt on that shelf on that side! Though I don't have a watermelon this time of year... and we're past whole milk now... But if that's a bottle of Gatorade on the side, I have one there right there right NOW. LOL.

Loved this. Soooooooo entertaining. Such cute boys.
