IWSG and the Six Million Dollar (advance) Man :)

Aloha,

(Directed by Alex J. Cavanaugh)

Scene 2014 – Take 1

No excuses, (well, I have plenty – don’t want to bore you!) but 2013 could have, should have been for me a much stronger year as a writer, only I let myself down time and time again.
However, it’s a new year and there will be many writerly challenges ahead of all of us, I’m sure.

Barbers Point, HI, New Year's Day, 2014

But, with a new dawn comes a new day – and a fresh start.

I’ll remain insecure about achieving my writerly goals, (who doesn’t?) but I’m tired of procrastinating and/or doing other “important” stuff (like reading about the Angels) in my limited writing time.

Hope and Change has worked for some, but I’m focusing on Write and Now. I don’t want to be the one who continues to cause a fail.

Richard Anderson as Oscar Goldman
For 2014, my mental strength is reset on FULL and if I can paraphrase the words of the immortal Oscar Goldman: Gentlemen, we can rebuild his WIP. We have the technology to fix his grammar. We have the capability to build the world's first really bald author. Mark Koopmans will be that author. Better than he was before…

PS: Here’s to your success as we move forward in this awesome writing community of ours.
While I may not be the Six Million Dollar advance Man by year’s end, I do aim to be better, stronger and faster!

The limited writing time is a problem, so I know how that is!
Here's to be becoming better, stronger and faster. :)
I know you can do it!

A six million dollar advance would be A LOT of pressure. I don't think I could handle the stress.

Luckily, I don't have one on offer. ;)

Here's to a better writing year for both of us! Happy 2014.

Not just bald, but really bald! Now that is a heck of a goal.
Fresh year, Mark. Keep the faith.

Now is the time. I spent too long making excuses and procrastinating. One day I realized no one will do it but me. Good luck with your goals this year.

Mark, last year was just all-around weird for me. Things popped up that I didn't expect, a couple wonderful things emerged and, in short, my year didn't end up in any manner I anticipated. Isn't it so GOOD that God never allows anything to be wasted and has a plan weaving through it all? HUGE relief to this wandering child. Can't wait to see what this year holds for you. I've read your words. I know you're gifted and it's all in God's sublime timing.

Not to be a weiner, but to improve your observations: Did you know you had "Goldman" on the text and "GoldSMITH" on the picture? Welcome to 2014...

Love the attitude. Yes, 2014 will be better. That's what I'm saying today. From one ISW to another, happy 2014!

Haha Love the quote. I could totally hear that in my head.

Good luck and don't be too hard on yourself. Firm, yes, but don't beat yourself up.

You can't do more than all that you do and since you try to improve all the time, I guess I'd say you're successful.

And did you know you are my partner in the I Was Searching For Gary Linky? Yep. We be side by side. So who's getting to top first? Game on.

I didn't know you were into baseball! Huh. I learn new things every day... :)

Mark, one of my resolutions is to make sure YOU complete your resolutions. You will do amazing things this year---and I feel lucky to know you and get to watch success come your way :)

You have a great attitude, dude... Don't worry. You'll get there.

Didn't you have a book out in 2013? A memoir? AND... Did it not get great reviews, and win you some award?

Ehem... I wish I had such a BAD year!

All the best for 2014, Mark!

I'm hosting a COFFEE HOP... drop by for the deets!

Getting a six million dollar advance will certainly make me sweat it while I'm working it at the keyboard. May 2014 be a good writing year for you, Mark!

Handle it day by day, Mark. I know you'll get there because, yes, you do have everything you need to do it.

Darn, no six million dollars? lol!

Like you, I'm determined to be better, stronger, and faster.

And learn to work efficiently with my itty bitty sound byte time slots, dammit.

Oh, and I resolve henceforth NOT to drive my car nose first into anymore snowbanks...

I feel the same way about 2013. It wasn't the best year for me in many ways but I only have myself to blame for that. Soooo, how about we all just kick 2014 out of the ball park this year. Ok? :)

Chancelet said...

Well, Mark, you're in this group for a reason... as we all are! May this year be one of much less insecurities, much more joy in getting the writing done, and success by the end of 2014, if not sooner. No need for bionics here! Just belief in oneself - and belief that God gave you that drive for a reason.

At church before 2013 was over, my pastor gave a message on not waisting the gifts God has given you, which at the time I felt I was. Prayer followed the message for those who felt they were wasting the gifts. I have to say, after that day, I was able to reach my goal of completing the first draft of my WIP before the year end, which before that, I'd just about given up on that idea.

Believe in yourself and what God has given you! Writer’s Mark

I was waiting for the Da-da-da-da sound effect.

Here's hoping 2014 is going to be a stellar year for all of us.
