Midweek Moments - Hong Kong 3: Amazing Food

Hola,

One reoccurring theme, at least per the photos Mirjam and I have taken, is the sheer variety and deliciousness of Hong Kong's amazing food choices.

We've been blessed to experience and enjoy Michelin-starred restaurants, street vendors and everything in between, including a local 24-hour diner who offered us a first pot of hot tea -- not to drink -- but to wash our chopsticks, bowls and plates with!

The second pot of tea was for drinking, but it was fun interacting with the two old servers who knew we were clueless on what to do, but helped us, as has everyone else we've met over here, with bright smiles and lots of international hand gestures, head-nodding and lots and lots of pointing at menu pictures that may (or sometimes not) look like the actual food once it's delivered to the table.

Here's some pictures and the diet begins next week!

Before it hits the restaurant and/or family table...

...There are literally dozens of outdoor food markets selling everything from scallops...

...To meats of all sorts, and while it may jar the senses of what's usual (neatly packed and processed foods need not apply!)...

...The end results have been nothing short of absolutely delicious...

... and as fresh and organic as any "normal" store where I've eb bought seafood or steaks.

Midweek Moments: Hong Kong 2

Hola,

Oh my gosh... we'll never eat again... well until tomorrow as we're still trying to find Peking Duck, but more on that in the next post!

Here's some more pics enjoying the time of my life with the love of my lifetime (even though Mirjam is reading this as I write and says I'm way too corny :)

Forgot to share this yesterday, but this is where the trip began!

And we even "visited" China and Kazachstan in a 3 minute period !!!

The famous Hong Kong Clock Tower...

This boat, in the Star Ferry fleet, was built in 1958 - and it truly looked its age!!

Our dodgy ferry has more life donut thingies than yours... (I hope:)

View of Central Hong Kong skyline from the Star Ferry

Can a regular McDonald's ever be as cute as this baby one. I think not :)

Chilling out at a street food restaurant...

Enjoying another local beer, although this one was from "German"

I read this receipt... and was very happy Mary was our server!

Nightime skyline...

Street vendors hard at work... in this case at 00:30

Signs of the times

Another city that never sleeps....

If you can, picture the menu...
A wonderful end to a most wonderful and eye-popping day!

Midweek Moments Extra: Hong Kong 1

Hola,

Gosh. I remember in July 1997 when the handover happened like it was only 22 years ago, and enjoyed devouring so many adventures set here (especially in some of my favorite comics such as Bullet and 2000 AD,) but I never expected to visit and see Hong Kong in person.

That is, until my dear love, Mirjam, handed me the best 50th birthday present. Ever.

We jumped on a 747-400 series (totally looked that up while we waited to board - thank you, Wikipedia) Tuesday and now we're in Kowloon for 6 days.

Holy crap, Batwoman....

I can't wait to share some crazy pictures with you, dear readers...

... And to you, Mirjam.... I have the best friend, working partner and lover. (with the best working desk ♡)

First 2 minutes on the streets of Hong Kong... Impressed with this cabbie's "can do" attitude:)

Well, I did ask the bartender for a local brew!

We originally thought these were gaudy, but well-priced, only to find out it's HKD 4,328 *per gram* #Yikes !

The famous "Ladies Market" has anything and everything for sale...

... including 5 T-shirts for HKD 10 (about $1.20/1 euro) Christmas presents: Done:)

Saw this in the private alley between restaurant and toilet. Didn't see the pool!

When it rains, it umbrellas... nearly got stabbed in the eye 20 times :)

As the evening approches, the lights come on...
... And I presume the air-conditioning cranks up as the humidity kicks in...

Looking down, my first thoughts were it's a scene from Bladerunner

An amazing first day ends alongside my very own beautiful and super-cute wonder woman :)

Midweek Moments - Of a Miscellaneous Variety

Hola,

Using a backlog of randomly unique pictures this week.

I loved taking them as I was wandering around various places these last few weeks, hope you enjoy them, too!

Marbella: 'Nuff said...

[Insert obligatory Red Ferrari here...]

Benalmadena: What's in the box? (and I LOVE he's sitting on a beer crate!!)

Holy Shit!! ... Not the job for anyone with a hangover...

Not One, nor Two, but "Tree" Irish pubs in a row. As you do.

Meanwhile, the Dutch pub and the English pub are closed !!!

And, we're getting ready for another season of tourists...

Algarroba: (Ed. Note: Please don't say sunset, 'cos it would be a bit silly to say "sunset" as everyone can see it's a bloody sunset.)

Estepona: Showing a house in a huge community... and on the other side of the road... is a horse. Of course.

Alcaudete: That cylindrical thing is a water heater powered by solar panels... I was worried the first time I saw it as I thought it was a spare depth charge that someone had kept for emergencies...

Not the clearest picture, because I'm a spazz, but I love that ruin on top of the hill, watching from ahigh as the town and life goes by... (Ed. Note: jeez, what's up with the rhyming stuff going on this week??)

"Cable Company? Yes, hello. Listen, your satellite  dish is in the way of my sun. Can you send someone around, please? Oh, they'll move the sun remotely? And, it shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes? Fantastic! Thanks for the great service!"

Cryptic message... I'll let you figure that one out for yourselves... answers in the comments, please :)

Torre del Mar: Can't skip the traditional number-changed-but-why? picture.
