IWSG: I lost my Pantser. Should I Skirt on a Schedule?

Aloha,

Did you know? The first Wednesday of the month has been trademarked as a time to share with the Insecure Writers Support Group.
Led by Alex CASSAnaugh, the Ninja Captain is ably supported this month by CD Coffelt, Tina Downey, Isis Rushdan and Michelle Wallace.

This month, I’m insecure about my male pattern baldness.
Dang, wrong email…. Hang on a mo, bro... oh here we go…
I’m worried that I’m losing readers because I have no set schedule. But, do I need a schedule?
Although a little confused, I'm planning to roll out the schedule listed below, which would begin the first Monday of 2034. (This gives me time to iron out any font, layout or spell-check issues.)

In the meantime, I’d really like your input.
Is the schedule too hot, or too hard to follow?
Too cold, or too soft to the etouch?

And, has anyone seen Baby Bear?

WEEK ONE:

MONDAY: OPEN (for cover reveals, bloghops, etc.)
WEDNESDAY: ISWG (what?)

A Beach

FRIDAY: Happening in Hawaii (Things to do/places to go while visiting O’ahu.)

WEEK TWO:

MONDAY: OPEN
WEDNESDAY: Mark’s Musings (who only knows what will pop out of my mouth – but it will be terribly serious.)
The Southernmost point of the U.S. (on the Big Island)

FRIDAY: Friday Fotos (Pictures of the islands – and its people)

WEEK THREE:

MONDAY: OPEN

Ear-warmers: Secret way to use a Boppy #102

WEDNESDAY: Writer’s Wednesday (I’ll share my depth of knowledge (will be a short series)

FRIDAY: You Know You’re A Parent When… (My ongoing series as a stay-at-home dad to three mini-marks)
WEEK FOUR:

MONDAY: OPEN
            WEDNESDAY: Book Review

FRIDAY: Do You Have Goals Bloghop (this ongoing series is the brainchild of Misha Gericke.)

(When there’s a WEEK FIVE, one shall wing it.)

Thanks for taking the moment to review and share your thoughts via the comments – and, oh… if anyone has an idea or a suggestion, I have a box for that, too :)

I'll be honest, Mark. I don't usually notice other bloggers' schedules.

I have limited blogging time (usually in the mornings over breakfast and coffee). I look at the blog roll on the sidebar and click on the ones with blog post titles that interest me.

Like coming here today. :D

Maybe someday, when I quit the day job (OH PLEASE LET THAT HAPPEN!) I'll have more time and be more aware ... but right now, I'm just doin' what I can!

Like Dianne, I don't notice schedules. I have times I sit down to read blogs and I go through my list until my time runs out. Unfortunately this means I miss out on lots of posts. It's the only way I can keep myself from reading blogs all day, every day.

Your schedule looks interesting - I'm sure I'll catch some of it, at least :-)

And I'm clearing my 2034 schedule so I don't miss a single post!

Your schedule looks great. It's really difficult for me to plan ahead with my blogs. I blame work, mostly. I wish I could just write all the time. :)

Share depth of knowledge - it will be a short series - hilarious! I'm with you. That's why I never offer writing tips.
Cassanaugh! Don't think that will be the title of the next book though...

I have a few recurring memes that I schedule - things like Waiting on Wednesday or Monday Mailbox - but only because I'm tagging onto somebody else's schedule. Other than that, I just post as the muse demands and time allows.

I think a schedule is great for helping a blogger come up with and organize content, but I don't really pay attention to them. I follow bloggers through Feedly, so whenever they post, it shows up.

As for blogging three times a week, more power to you if you can manage that. Even posting only twice a week, social media is cutting into my writing time too much. I'm going on hiatus soon, then thinning my schedule out to about once a week when I return in the spring. ;)

I tried a schedule earlier this year. I'm still recovering from it...but good luck!

I like your schedule, Mark. It gives plenty of time for flexibility. D
Some people need a schedule to focus on their work. I think it depends on the person.

Okay, Mark! Looks like we all agree. Who pays attention to any schedules?? I just post something when it seems interesting, helpful, humorous...you know, just stuff! So, schedules??? Forget about it! (I said that in my best Balki Bartokomous voice!)

I've thought about having a set blog schedule from time to time. That's about as far as I got. ;) Good luck, Mark!

The schedule looks great to me, but like some others, I don't always notice schedules. I just like to make time to come out here whenever I can and see what you're doing because it's always fun—I mean terribly serious.

Honestly, I don't have the time to notice if bloggers schedule or not. I think it does more to drive the blogger nuts than benefit the readers. That's been my experience as a reader and a blogger, anyway.

LOL. No worries about a schedule - I never notice them! I think not going too long between posts is what's important, not the day itself. I have a set day (Wednesdays) because I do better when I have a schedule!

I don't think readers notice a schedule. I think they just notice when you post a blog and come visit at that time. I do have a set schedule for my regular posts, which are every Tuesday, but that's only for my benefit. Otherwise my guest posts are scheduled on whatever day is good for my guest. If you're worried about losing readers, try to share your posts in other places (social media, Stumbleupon, blog carnivals) if you aren't already. And good luck! :)

Mark, I never notice a blogger's schedule. But if want to stick to one, its not a bad thing.

I usually don't notice schedules either but I do think you have great ideas lined up here. I hope it works out for you! And you cracked me up about the baldness LOL. :D

Like many others here I don't usually notice schedules and I don't stick to them myself.

That sounds like a huge commitment, and a lot of work.
Do you need a schedule? Really. Except for things where you are linking up with other players...
Good luck, and much more importantly, have fun.

No, I don't realize notice schedules, but yours looks fabulous. Enjoy!

I've tried several times to stick to a blogging schedule. Like dieting, I fail under the pressure.

Hey if you stick to a schedule, then I have to have a "schedule" of visiting. Kinda selfish of you Mark to dictate my life like that, hmm?

Ya know, life happens, and in my opinion its better to post only when you feel in the mood rather than write something that says "no post today" just cuz you think you gotta rigidly stick to a routine.

I'm taking the next couple months off-line to write and stuff. How's that for upsetting a schedule :)

Y kuje tiyr scgedykem Narj,,,Oops, I was on the wrong keys.

I like your schedule, Mark...but like many of the others, I follow the reader and hit up the topics that interest me.

I tried a schedule, but then things kept coming up that didn't allow for that (nor three days a week).

I'll be looking for your Hawaiian posts...the scenery and pictures. I'm sort of branching out and doing the same...posting about "the world of ML Swift." I'll always connect it to how it inspires or affects me as a writer.

Good luck!

Mazza dude!

What the heck is a schedule? Write when you want to write. I check you out when I either see you on my blog list or I realise, gosh darn it, I haven't visited Mark.

Just keep a balance that feels right for you. As far as losing readers, I wouldn't worry about that. I lose readers on my site. Do I care? No way, as I start to sob uncontrollably.

Have you spoken to Yogi or Mr.Ranger, sir?

Gary :)

whoa...male baldness... it's so shiny around here!!
you know, i use to say i'm going to blog every monday, wed, fri but it got to be a freakin' hassle. i couldn't keep up with writing my MS and commenting and blogging. overkill! i went to once a week. now, i even will do once a month, like last month. i don't think anyone is going to say dang you keep it consistent Mark!! if you comment on people, they will see you and know your up and running... and polishing the shine.

Tonja Drecker said...

A schedule? Uh, what is that? I don't think I've ever noticed someone's schedule (well, unless they post it and I see it for those couple of seconds). My visits are more a question of hitting blogs when a couple free moments pop up - total luck thing. It sounds horrid, but if someone comments on my blog, I'll visit them. The rest, I try to visit whenever I can. Gosh, I wish I had more time to visit everyone.

Now THAT's a plan! I have one too but it changes before I can write it down. Right now, I want a schedule for reading my favorite blogs, like this one. Having it on a reader has helped. I am thinking of making Sundays my "reading" days. Yes. I'll do it. There, now I have a schedule for something.
