ALEXFEST 2012: Let The Roasting, er Posting Begin :)

Aloha,

FINALLY!

Houston, we are a GO! for “AlexFest.”

For full details and background, click here.

So, while Alex J. Cavanaugh is an awesome blogger, he’s also an enigma. J

To help crack the code, here’s four questions that the AlexFest participants plan to answer:

·         In +/- 20 words, what does Alex look like?

Alex is cau-cajun, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, has brown eyes and shoulder-length dark hair. (I have noooo idea.)

       ·         In +/- 20 words, who could play Alex in a documentary? (Living or dead.)

OK, don’t laugh, but I just described a young Tom Cruise! What? You can’t handle the truth?

      ·         In +/- 20 words, who does Alex remind you of?

A Tom Cruise-looking Arnold Swartzeknickers who’s been sent back in time to promote the rebel Bloggers of Publishedia.

      ·         In +/- 100 words, (excluding the title) write flash fiction using all these prompts:

·         Cavanaugh

·         Ninja

·         IWSG

·         Cosbolt

·         Guitar

Cavanaugh looked at the smoldering Borg.

“Without him, I’ll only post 1,694 ISWG comments before 9 a.m.”

The Ninja Captain looked at his lieutenant.

“Why did you shoot?”

“It attacked the Cosbolt – we need that Fighter,” said the Scottish-looking lassie. “We need more power – to post!”

Close to reaching his word count limit, Cavanaugh strummed his guitar, humming Last Christmas by WHAM! (his favorite boy band.)

“Lieutenant, are you willing to be a Borg?

“Yes!” said the trigger-happy officer.

“You’ll need a new name…”

She scribbled three words.

“Sure?”

She nodded.

“Morg the Borg. I like it. Let’s do this.”

(For Bonus Points:)

·         In +/- 40 words, leave a comment for Mrs. Cavanaugh - thanking her for sharing J

 Dear Mrs. C,

You have a keeper in young Alex. He’s a great man, but a BIG Cheers to you for all the weekly time needed. It’s amazing how hard Alex works to make us look better (except for me – the lost cause not even FABIO can fix :)

                                                                    ###

Two winners – chosen by Alex this Friday, Dec. 14 – will each win one prize:

FIRST PLACE: A signed copy of CassaStar.
GRAND PRIZE*: A picture of Alex and a download of him playing the guitar he just bought for more than $100 :)

(*One caveat: Alex asks the picture or download NOT be shared online.J)
PS: If you’re still interested, the Linky List below remains open until late Wednesday evening (EST.)

So fun and such a great idea, Mark. And yes, a big kudos to Mrs. C.

Bonus points for calling me young! Although Cruise might be a little short to play me. (He's a little too short to play anyone!)
Now off to catch up on my comments!!!
Thanks again, so much Mark. Really honored by this blogfest.

JennaQuentin said...

Can I add that you're a macadamia nut?

Joylene Nowell Butler said...

Well done, Dude. Not as well done as I done, but close. I'm a suspicious type. I agree that you're some kind of a nut--but what kind! Happy Alex-fest!

Jennie Bennett said...

Ha that's the worst song ever, Alex is right to hate them :)

Ella said...

I love what you wrote! Tom Cruise-yes our Captain has that kind of fan base~ So fun...
Thanks for hosting :D

David P. King said...

Hey! You mentioned Borg in your story, too! Great mind think alike, Mark. Great minds (or minds that are completely nutters, but I'm good either way). :)

Morgan said...

Ah-hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!

HOLY.

CRAP.

I. Am. DYING. Of. Laughter.

Mark, you're so FUNNY. 'said the Scottish-looking lassie. "We need more power--to post!"'

Seriously dying. And Morg the Borg... Really?!?!?!?!

I like it. Let's do this.

:D

Nicole said...

The rebel Bloggers of Publishedia! Ha - love it! Your flash fiction was great, too. Lots of nice nods to Alex.

Unknown said...

Wonderful and humorous salute, Mark! So Alex is a Wake Me Up Before You Go-go dancer, huh? :o)

Melissa said...

Hahaha - Great post, Mark. :D

Tyrean Martinson said...

This is hilarious - you had me laughing so hard with your story!!!
Thank you!

Empty Nest Insider said...

This was great Mark! Loved the Tom Cruise bit, the Morgan cameo, and especially the guitar that cost more than $100!
Thanks for hosting this fun fest! Julie

Sheena-kay Graham said...

Ha! Ha! Love the picture of a young Tom Cruise as Alex. Nice post, funny as ever Mark.

Michael Offutt, Phantom Reader said...

Great choice in Tom Cruise! Have you seen his new sci-fi movie preview that just hit the blogosphere? "Oblivion" I think it's called. But he definitely has sci-fi under his belt with Minority Report and to some extent "Mission Impossible." Although that last one really isn't sci-fi but seems so high tech it should be.

Unknown said...

I can't stop laughing! This was just brilliant and I love Arnold Schwarztnicker. Now there's a ninja barbarian.

JJ said...

Aloha, Mark. I'm your newest follower.

Nicki Elson said...

Yeah, I suspected Alex was just teasing when he said he didn't like that Wham! song. I mean, come on, who doesn't?

Thanks for putting on this fabulous fun fest. :)

D.G. Hudson said...

We agree then, that Alex may look like young Tom Cruise.

Kudos to you guys for dreaming up this celebration of Alex!

Tara Tyler said...

thanks so much for hosting this!

and i love morg the borg!

Sherry Ellis said...

Thanks for hosting this blogfest! It's a ton of fun!

Cassie Mae said...

Holy yikes! I never realized how tight of pants Tom wore in that movie.

I'm also dying over the Wham! reference. Awesome :D

Carrie-Anne said...

I love how you fit Wham! into the short story!

DL Hammons said...

I can't see Tom Cruise playing the guitar, but the rest fits!! :)

Tamara said...

LOVED your entry...I think your flash fiction was my fave. :)

Although I'm NOT sure about the Tom Cruise comparison...Alex is light-years cooler than Tom Cruise. (Who seems mildly creepy and possibly washed up. And NOT like Jack Reacher at all, but that's a whole other problem)

Shell Flower said...

Dude, you are so damn funny I'd have to quote your whole post to say all the places I laughed. Thanks for hostin' and mostin'!

Unknown said...

Wham..giggling. Great tribute to Alex. :)

cleemckenzie said...

Tom Cruise, heh? Possibly. I've chosen Johnny Depp, so we're on the same wavelength here.

What a super Fest this is! You three did a great thinking this up!

Arlee Bird said...

I don't know why but Tom Cruise was the first actor that came to my mind as well, but know I see that I'm not alone. For me I think it was because I can't think of that many actors' names.

Great participation on this fest. Should you be thanked or cursed? Well, I guess Alex deserves it.

I've seen a few Tom Cruise comparisons. It fits!

And, wow, that Wham song has got to be one of the worst Christmas songs ever. :P

Cheers, Alex!

Suzanne Furness said...

Wham! You crack me up, Mark. Thanks for co-hosting this fest, it's a blast!

SpacerGuy said...

You've assimilated me, Mark. Oh Yes I'm a Borg. Woo Hoo!

I can see Tom Cruise, but Arnold? NO. :D

Thanks for co-hosting, Mark!

Mina Burrows said...

Loved it. I wish I would have properly thanked Mrs.C.

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

Love the picture of super cocky Maverick. But can he sing something besides 'You've lost that loving feeling?'
And then you quote a few good men? Awesome.

Hi Mark - great hosting going on via this post ... now how is Marathon man - dare I ask?

Morg the Borg - I wonder if that phrase will end up in the English dictionary in a few years' time?!

Loving all the entries .. cheers Hilary

Kittie Howard said...

Fun post. Mahalo! Hmm, I wondered why so many thanked Mrs. C. I, er, missed that part.

Misha Gerrick said...

Hehehe I really enjoyed your quirky flash. :-)

Hart Johnson said...

*giggles* A Wham-loving Tom Cruise, eh? Hopefully we can count on Alex's sanity sticking around longer than Tom's did. And I apparently completely disregarded the guidelines, but that's sort of how I roll...

Cortney Pearson said...

Schwartzeknickers, lol, love it!!! :D

Susan Flett Swiderski said...

Great job. You've concocted a terrific blogfest, and it's been a lot of fun to read some of the entries. After reading them, those of us who only "know" Alex by rumor and reputation will be even more interested in getting to know him... the legend, the myth... the man.

Unknown said...

That was hilarious. Morg the borg! Thanks for hosting this blogfest. It's been a blast!

T said...

Ditto on "Morg the Borg"... thanks for the giggle, but thanks even more so for co-hosting this fest and giving us all a voice to say thank you to Alex!

Tonja Drecker said...

Wasn'T Mork from Ork? Yep, I think only Borg help could explain Alex's amazing all-present blogger presence. Thanks for hosting this!

Maryannwrites said...

Loved Morg the Borg. This was just as funny as my Mexicans with Sombreros bit. LOL

Please not Tom Cruise. I'm still trying to adjust to the idea of him playing Jack Reacher. I know. Not a sci-fi character, but a helluva suspense character who looks nothing like Tom Cruise.

Laura said...

Genius - love it! Sorry I'm late in posting - mine's just up.
Happy Wednesday
